Live your life in happiness, even though those around you live their lives in hatred and wish to spread their antipathy to you. Be happiness itself. ~ Happiness, verse 197

The Mission of This Blog

The purpose of this blog is to bring happiness and peace into the lives of those who read it, whether they are a first-time reader or a regular reader. This is achieved through the posting of good news, beautiful art and positively-oriented articles.

The inspiration for this blog came from a couple of sources. The first one is the ever-amazing randomposting right here on LiveJournal. Her positive outlook and daily posts are a much-needed and welcomed break from the drama and stress of everyday life. The second inspiration is my daily trek through the news. As a former journalist and campus newspaper editor, I am largely dismayed by not only the quality of many "news" articles today, but I am also disappointed in the focus on "bad" news. Trainwrecks sell news, not a success story. I aim to change that with this blog - because the "good" news in the world is so minimized, it will be the exclusive focus of this blog.

Now, I know you're thinking, "No one does anything out of the goodness of their heart anymore...what does she get out of this?" First, that's not true. :) There are many individuals every day doing good things solely out of the goodness of their hearts - it just doesn't make the news. Second, I get the good feeling of knowing that I might have made just one person's day a little bit brighter. As an art student with an emphasis in ecopsychology, this is important to me; I believe that well-being comes from a unified world, where we interact and coexist peacefully, not only with nature but with each other. Giving joy to others is one aspect of interacting peacefully.

Because I also believe in freedom - especially the freedom of speech and freedom of expression - I have chosen to leave comments open on this blog. I know from the experience of reading comment areas on news sites that there will inevitably be someone who cannot handle the personal responsibility that comes with freedom, and that individual will feel the need to leave a message that is mean-spirited, hateful, or negative to the topic at hand. This is a part of the experience of life; but it does not have to be perpetuated on this blog. Any such comments will be frozen to replies. If the poster and/or any others feel the need to reply to the comment despite it being frozen, they are asked to take it off this blog. Please respect the nature of this blog by not perpetuating negativity here.

I am also open to suggestions for articles I may have missed during my daily web browsing! Feel free to PM them to me via LJ; even if they are not posted immediately, all articles will be considered and some may be posted at a future date. Remember, sharing is a two way street - I'll share with you, but you can share with me too!

Finally, thank you to everyone who visits. I hope that you enjoy this blog.
